What is Crossed Paths / Dimokre Chronicles?

Crossed Paths is the first book in my series, Dimokre Chronicles. The main genres are fantasy and romance. Dimokre Chronicles will eventually be a series of 3-8 novels, but right now I'm just focusing on editting the first novel and writing the second.

What is Crossed Paths about?

This book is about how a part-wolf spirit, part-human male (named Michael) crosses paths and teams up with a cheerful, extroverted female (named Sarah) to fight the evil Huntress before she takes over the spirit world. Crossed Paths takes place in a made-up city in Missouri, United States. Michael is a kid with many secrets – especially involving his family. Balancing work, high school, family, and the spirit world, he has to deal with Sarah too, feeling only-slightly-less-than-hatred towards her at first. They fight like everyone else would; the only difference is they also fight monsters, spirits, and the Huntress together too. Michael’s no hero though, so Sarah can’t figure out what his reasoning is.

What is its rating? (G, PG, R, etc.)

Good question. These ratings are more for movies, not books, but I suppose it would probably be PG, maybe R? I would classify it as Teenagers/Young Adult fiction. There are large amounts of cussing and gore, and I do touch on issues like abuse, rape, etc. I think it’s appropriate for most teenagers and up.

What is its genre?

Fantasy and romance!

How long is the book / series going to be?

The first book was 64 chapters. I've planned 66 chapters for the second book. We shall see about the rest. :)

How difficult is the world they live in?

Pretty difficult. Main bad guy can enslave or steal powers. Plus, there's a lot of other bad guys that are just as powerful if not more. Let's just say it's easy to not only die but also get eaten in this world. :)

Since the main character is a quiet, dark teenager,

does that mean Michael is a "bad boy"?

Michael was the person that's the closest to my personality when I first started writing this. Michael is not a "bad boy." He's antisocial, introverted, and has experienced trauma, and because of this, he's pushed everyone away and can't stand most people. He doesn't act cold and distant to get the girl; he doesn't want the girl. Antisocial and introverted doesn't mean a person is a "bad boy." He's just trying to keep the ones close to him safe, and he honestly doesn't care about anyone else.

Where do you get all this creativity, inspiration, and ideas?

I get creativity naturally pretty much. Occasionally, I get ideas from other things too, like tutoring someone or listening to music for example. But otherwise, ideas will just pop into my head randomly or from day/dreams. When I'm relaxed like before I go to sleep or in the shower, I will also get ideas.

When and how did it start?

TWO questions? What is this sorcery?

So when I was about 10, I had a dream about this blonde girl (Sarah) meeting a little boy (Kael) in a hollow tree with stained glass windows. So it technically started then, but an amazingly vivid dream isn’t enough to start me writing! Oops?

When I was 12 or so, I was homeschooled in an online curriculum. So one of my friends was emailing me about how well I write papers and these short story assignments we had to do for English class. I literally only wrote for school, and I didn't really think I was good at writing. I got A's, but I just chalked it up to the teachers liking me/I was good at writing what schools wanted. So my friend asked for a quick lesson in how I write. And me being the amazing friend I was/am, I agreed with full gusto. It seemed fun... and I didn't want to do my chemistry homework. I made up these two random characters interacting to provide examples of dialogue and description. Their names were Michael and Sarah. She loved them and asked me to continue, sooooo I did, heh.

This story is super detailed, so how long did

it take for you to think of everything?

D'aw, thank you. It's been a decade and a year (and counting), so I've had a lot of time to think of stuff. I just find some time every day to relax, and ideas just come to me, and I write them down in organized notes / folders, so everything's consistent. Makes it easy for when I need to look back at it.

How long does it take to write a page? What is your stamina?

Uhmmmmm it depends. Usually takes me a few hours to write a five or six page chapter. So, if I don't have writer’s block, and I know what’s gonna happen, it usually takes me like ten or twenty minutes to write one page, I guess? I don't usually keep track of it, sorry. xD And of course, if I'm not completely sure of what’s gonna happen and/or if I'm not super inspired or motivated, then it’ll take a bit longer. Sometimes I go on a writing hiatus, just because I need a vacation from it. But usually, it takes a couple hours to write a five page chapter, and a couple more hours to edit. Sometimes, my chapters can reach like ten or higher pages, and those obviously take longer. I'm sorry that this answer has to be so vague!

This sounds so cool! Do you think it could become an anime or animated movie like Studio Ghibli?

D'aw, thanks! I've been working really hard on this, and I'm very happy there are people out there, such as yourself, that enjoys my book as much as I do!

As for your actual question, that would be absolutely amazing. I would watch it in a heartbeat. My favorite author is Diana Wynne Jones, and she wrote Howl's Moving Castle (among many other good books). HMC is close to being my first favorite book by her, but anyways, it also has an anime movie by Studio Ghibli. I really enjoyed both. But I don’t know if it’ll actually happen to me. xD That would be most definitely amazing though, so uh, Miyazaki, if you're out there, sign me up.
